The mission of the Office of Executive Programs (OEP at http://www.puaf.umd.edu/oep) at the University of Maryland s School of Public Policy (MSPP) is to provide professional educational opportunities and outreach for the purpose of developing public sector leaders and organizations that make a difference in public policy arenas. OEP has a 20-year record of developing and delivering highly specialized and well-received training programs.

 

The Maryland School of Public Policy is ranked in the top 20 nationwide and attracts an outstanding faculty. OEP employs six-to-eight Senior Fellows to direct specific projects. Senior Fellows have Ph.D. s, J.D. s, and other advanced degrees in addition to significant public sector experience

 

OEP s programs utilizes MSPP s outstanding faculty, in addition to the resources of the larger University of Maryland System and nationwide practitioner community, in the delivery of its highly rated programs. OEP currently offers training opportunities in the following five program areas: Leadership and Management, Environmental Policy, Labor Policy, Public Sector Financial Management, and Housing and Community Development.

 

 

SIN 874-1 Consultation Services

 

Clients can employ OEP s consulting expertise and assistance in assessing organizational needs, understanding legislative and executive mandates, complying with policy regulations, and building the capacities of an agency s internal staff to address these issues. OEP has significant experience conducting studies, performing analyses and writing reports. Specifically, OEP personnel have expertise with the Government Results and Performance Act (GRPA), OMB Circulars A-11 and A-76, the President s Management Agenda, and individual agency management plans.

 

OEP s access to a network of outstanding faculty-practitioners allows us to conduct thorough assessments of leadership and management needs and on-going, new, or proposed programs, and to provide clients with detailed analyses of effective alternatives.

OEP works closely with its clients to gather progress reports over the course of a project to ensure client satisfaction and the achievement of project objectives. Additionally, OEP conducts quality evaluations and client satisfaction surveys on all of its work.

SIN 874-4 Training Services

 

The core mission of all OEP training programs is to build the capacities of middle and senior level professionals to more effectively serve their organizations and the public. OEP s programs attract more than 800 participants each year.

 

OEP s training sessions are based on state-of-the-art research and are customized to meet the organizational priorities and needs of the agency client. Training sessions incorporate didactic presentations, case studies, action learning, one-on-one mentoring, peer interaction, and simulations. OEP s leadership and organizational improvement programs emphasis systemic organizational change by focusing on the participants real world practice and the development of peer learning communities. Training curricula customization incorporates the specific mission and customer needs of an organization.

     

TRAINING COURSE FOR SIN 874-4

 

A customized nine-day program focusing on both leadership and management skills, spaced over this four-month period to maximize the potential for both individual practice and agency change. This leadership program specifically addresses the current and future management and organizational challenges of the overall agency, as well as those of the individual participant s divisions.

 

The Senior Leadership Program builds upon OEP s existing off-the-shelf leadership and negotiations training sessions The program combines assessment data, case studies, interactive discussions, experiential learning, coaching feedback, and the development of leadership development plans. Selected scholar-practitioners who are widely recognized as leading experts in their respective fields conduct all content sessions Specific curriculum content in this program includes the following sessions:
